The complex is composed of four areas: The Landing, The Marketplace, The West Side, and The Town.
The complex was built on the site of the former Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park and opened on March 2, 1975 as "Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village". It was renamed as "Walt Disney World Village" in 1977, as "Disney Village Marketplace" in 1989, and as "Downtown Disney" in 1997.
The complex was renamed Disney Springs on September 29, 2015, after undergoing a $1 billion expansion and renovation. Disney Springs takes its name from the springs that once flowed beneath the property.
Disney Springs is home to some of the area's most popular restaurants, including The BOATHOUSE, Morimoto Asia and Homecoming – Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine. There's also plenty of shopping to be had, with stores like Anthropologie, Kate Spade New York. Come and explore this eclectic mix of unique boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants, including the only Wolfgang Puck Express location in the world.
