Welcome to Brooklyn Museum, one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. Located in the borough of Brooklyn, the museum is home to over 5,000 pieces of art from around the world. With 456,000 visitors annually, the museum ranks among the top five most visited art museums in the country. The museum is located in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Museum was opened in 1897, making it the country’s first public art museum. It offers a variety of programs and activities for all ages, including family-friendly programming, lectures, and more.

Its collection spans from ancient Egyptian art to contemporary pieces, making it one of the most diverse in the world. Our exhibitions are constantly changing, so there's always something new to see. Some of the highlights of the museum's collection include ancient Egyptian art, Roman and Greek antiquities, and American and European paintings and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries.

More than just an art museum, the Brooklyn Museum is also a significant archive for historical material. The museum houses the archives for the African Diaspora and the Caribbean and it is the only major museum that has a collection of African-American art.

The museum is also home to the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. It’s noteworthy that it's the first museum on the National Mall dedicated to feminist art. This center is a collection of numerous works of art and archives that are the product of women's achievements, struggles, and aspirations throughout the world and across time." The Sackler Center was established in 2007 with the mission of being a resource for the study and exploration of the role of women in art, culture, and society.

The Sackler Center for Feminist Art also has a collection of art books, journals and periodicals that can be accessed by the public.

Brooklyn Museum, New York is also a major cultural center, hosting concerts, lectures, and other events throughout the year.
